ALTERNATIVE BREAK TRIPS
Our alternative break trips give students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, learning about the history and society. They hear stories first-hand from community members about obstacles in life that needed to be overcome as well as dreams for the future and what it's like to be Jewish in their community.
Alternative Spring Break 2010
Dates: March 7th-14thCost: $200+ travel
Join 50 other service-minded students around the country in Miami, Florida. This trip is a partnership between Hillel and City Year and will provide an opportunity to stretch beyond the everyday by coming together through hands-on service, team building and the exploration of social justice and Judaism.
Days will be spent doing volunteer work which may include, but is not limited to, building, painting, tutoring children and serving meals. Participants should be prepared for intense days of hands-on service and be open to experiential learning as a means to increase knowledge about socio-economic and social justice issues.
Following a communal dinner, activities will be planned, and may include campus discussions, speakers, and other options. The trip will also include a restful Shabbat.

Alternative Summer Break 2009
Dates of the trip: August 11th-20th 2009Join other UCF students for a 10-day Short Term Service Program in Kharkov, Ukraine sponsored by The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). You will work alongside Ukrainian Hillel peers volunteering in the homes of Jewish elderly, spending time with them and refurbishing their homes. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the lives of those they visit, hear about how the Holocaust and communism has affected their lives. Those lost in the Holocaust will be remembered through memorial services at Babi Yar and in Kharkov at Drobitsky Yar. Throughout your time with Kharkov's Jewish community, students will have the opportunity to learn about the many social services being provided through the work of JDC. Students will visit Hesed (or welfare) Centers and organize activities for children-at-risk.
A large portion of the trip will focus on raising students' awareness of challenges facing the Ukrainian Jewish community and engaging them in action to meet overseas Jewish needs. It is our hope that students will return from the trip advocates for the Jewish communities where they served and as invigorated, energized Jews who will take action with regard to what they did and what they saw.
This is your chance to make a difference! It only costs $600 with everything included!
